Need a place to store your yard accessories? Do you love to garden, but don’t have room for all the stuff? Then you should add storage shed to your garden. And yes, you could store your gardening supplies in your garage, but a storage shed provides distinct advantages over your garage.

First, you will separate the potentially harmful chemicals, such as fertilizers, in your shed and keep them away from children & animals. Second, you can create a space specifically designed for storing garden accessories, tools & equipment. Deciding which shed to choose can be overwhelming-one Google search for “garden sheds” brings up over 1.2 million websites!-so I have devised a checklist that will streamline your storage shed plan.

First, decide what type of material to for your storage shed; various types of plans exist to build a shed from scratch, or you can use the readymade sheds, also available in many different types of materials. Sheds have traditionally been made out of wood, but recently companies like Rubbermaid have been selling “click-together” sheds made from vinyl or plastic. Metal is a material to consider for your shed design, especially if you live in hurricane-prone areas, because it allows for a durability and protection not provided for by wood & vinyl. If you have any type of outdoor property and you have a garden of any size there is going to come a time when you have to have a shed. Don’t forget that a shed isn’t just applicable to the summer months it can be utilized to store all those winter items as well.

Once you have determined that you are ready to invest in a shed then you will need to determine if you are going to build it yourself or erect a prefabricated one. Either one there is a little planning involved or you need to follow some steps to make your shed project a successful one.

First Step:

Obviously, the primary purpose of your shed is going to be for storage. Then you may want a small amount of space to do some repairs or small hobbies. What you are considering right now is the size. Consider the large summer and winter items. Most certainly, you are going to want to store these in your new shed. Probably the biggest items will be your lawn mower and your snow blower. You are considering purchasing a new outdoor shed but you just aren’t sure where to begin there are just so many factors to consider. Don’t let it overwhelm you just go through all of the requirement steps.

You will need to set a budget that you can afford to spend on your new shed. There is no point in looking if you don’t have some idea of budget. Then once you have determined this you need to figure out what size you need. This is going to be dependant on the size of the area that is available for your shed. Then how much stuff do you need to store in there.

You should also consider for the future as well. You don’t want to buy one so small that you have to cram everything you have now in there and there is no room for the purchase.
