My-o-so’tis. Fifty species, mostly European, but a few throughout the north temperate zone.

Description
Usually branching, often weak or prostrate, generally hairy. Leaves alternate, without marginal teeth. Flowers small, in branched or unbranched, sometimes 1-sided, clusters. Calyx short, tubular, 5-toothed at the top. Corolla 5-lobed, the throat crested and often of a different color.

He-li-o-tro’pi-um. Over 200 species of mainly tropical or subtropical herbs, some woody, one a widely cultivated garden plant grown for its fragrant flowers.

Description
Leaves mostly alternate, usually hairy. Flowers small, borne in forking, usually 1-sided cymes. Calyx tubular, as long as the corolla in some species. Corolla tubular, stamens not protruding from it.

Description
Leaves alternate, often red or white-spotted. Flowers in 1-sided clusters, yellow, borne among numerous purple bracts. Corolla nearly regular, tubular.

Description

An-koo’sa. Alkanet ; Bugloss . A genus of perhaps 40 species of Old World herbs, a few grown for their showy flowers.

Description
The plants are all more or less hairy, and have alternate leaves and leafy, usually one-sided, flower clusters not unlike (in some species) those of forget-me-not. Flowers small, trumpet-shaped, but somewhat closed at the throat.

Ek’i-um. A genus of over 35 species of Eurasian herbs or shrubby plants, a few grown for ornament.

Description
Rough foliage, with alternate, simple leaves. Flowers showy, blue, in forked or unforked, 1-sided spikes. Corolla funnel- or trumpet-shaped, its limb somewhat oblique. Stamens 5, nearly always protruding.

Om-fa-lo’dez. Low herbs, comprising about 25 species, closely allied to Cynoglossum, which they resemble. Europe and Asia.

Description
Stems smooth or slightly hairy. Leaves basal, long-stalked, lance- or heart-shaped, the stem leaves smaller, fewer, and alternate. Flowers blue, sometimes pinkish, arranged in loose 1-sided racemes. Calyx joined halfway down. Corolla united to form a short tube, usually white with veinlike markings radiating from the center, giving it a starlike appearance. Stamens 5, not protruding.
