Garden Shed Building Plans – The Correct Way To Build A Shed

February 25, 2010 By: Abe Tyler Category: Buildings 4 Gardens

When you first look at a set of garden shed building plans, there’s an excitement and often a temptation to rush in and get started. If you can curb your enthusiasm for a short while, you’ll find the shed building process easier, faster and much smooth.

To follow a garden shed plan, you need a plan!

The first step is to look over the plans. All good shed plans will come with step-by-step instructions. Work your way through these mentally, slowly, following the steps on the printed plans so you know what’s required in each phase of the construction. See how each section is built and how the sections connect to each other.

This ‘dry run’ will make the actual construction process easier as you’ll already have a mental picture of what needs to be done. Make a note on the plans if there are any steps require special care or may be problematic.

Pay particular attention to any details on the shed plan such as door and window jambs, the gable overhang, eave details and so on. Make sure you understand which parts are required and how they fit together. (more…)

Work Shed Plans – Three Top Tips Before Buying

Work Shed Plans allow you to build a shed to work in, but there are three things you should check before buying a shed plan and diving in with the construction.

1. Is the work shed design tried and tested? In other words, can you be sure that after following the shed blueprints you will have a shed that goes together the way it should? You need a shed plan that has actually been used to build a shed so you can be sure it is accurate, correct and complete.

Occasionally, shed blueprints may be released and sold without having been tested so it’s only when someone tries to build a shed from the plans that they realise something is amiss. In such cases, most people think they have not followed the plans correctly and blame themselves. So it’s essential that you know the plans ‘work’! (more…)

Garden Shed Blueprints – What The Plans Won’t Tell You

Building a garden shed is fun and will save you a shed load of money! Buying the right plan is, of course, essential but one aspect of shed building is not addressed by most plans and that is – where to build it?

Many people looking at garden shed blueprints to build their perfect shed will already have the spot picked out. If you’re short of space, you may not have much choice about where to build your shed but even so, think about the following points before beginning construction.

The most important consideration is access. If you need to paint the shed, perhaps do minor repairs to it or keep the ground around it clear, you’ll need 360 degree access to it. If you were thinking of positioning it right up against a wall or a fence, think about the implications of not being able to get to that side. (more…)

Downloadable Shed Plans – Don’t Build Before Reading This!

January 23, 2010 By: Abe Tyler Category: Advice General, Buildings 4 Gardens

Downloadable shed plans are certainly the way forward for anyone wanting to build a shed. It’s far easier and quicker to click a button and download shed plans onto your computer than to send off a check and wait for plans to arrive in the post.

After downloading the plans, the first thing you should do is to make a backup copy either to another computer, another hard drive or a USB flash drive. Just in case something goes wrong, you don’t want to lose your shed plans.
The second thing to do is to print the plans. It’s far easier to read and understand a printed copy than looking at it on your monitor.

Read through the plans and see that everything makes sense. You don’t have to thoroughly understand every line and detailed section at this point, but you can mark any areas that you want to come back to or which require further study. (more…)
