How To Plant A Water Garden

March 05, 2010 By: Johnny Roberts Category: Gardens - Water, How To Grow...

If you are going to plant a water garden or upgrade the one you currently have, there are a few things that you have to understand before proceeding. If you are creating a new water garden, you will want to check out the different varieties available. They can be created from scratch with all the materials you need to set it up or you can purchase a water garden kit.

The kits can be added to your garden to get the look you want to attain. If you want to add statues or fountains, there are loads of pre-made ones. A waterfall will look great and your fish will love it too. Read the instructions that came with your kit so that you can set it up smoothly. If you do it correctly the first time, you will not have to dismantle it and start over because you made a mistake.

The plants you wish to put in your water garden can either be submerged plants or floating plants. Submerged plants live virtually totally in the water with leaves that may grow above the water. Water lilies are a good example of this type of plant. Normally, they are planted in a container or at the bottom of the pond, around one or two feet below the level of the water. Water lilies also create oxygen for fish in the water. Another submerged plant that many people have is the hornwart. (more…)

Some Wine Recipes

March 05, 2010 By: Jerry Shannon Category: Recipes & Canning

Wines have become a household word and most households today have access to reasonably priced wine. Drinking wine doesn’t just provide people with comfort during winter or cold weather but they also provide health benefits to the young and old alike.

A glass of red wine a day is said to prevent Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. It’s also a preventive measure against diarrhea and food poisoning. These claims are slowly being corroborated by scientific evidence, all leading to the healthful effects of moderate wine intake.

Research show that while the French eat more fat than their American counterparts, the French have fewer incidents of heart attacks. Some people attribute this to the French’s propensity for drinking wine during mealtimes. A study done by the Copenhagen City Heart Study claimed that people who consume a moderate amount of wine a day have higher chances of living a long and healthy life.

Experts agree that the flavonoid, tannin and other contents of red wine are responsible for increasing the level of good cholesterol while decreasing the level of bad cholesterol, and thereby preventing strokes and heart attacks.

A Guide To Greenhouse Accessories

March 05, 2010 By: Michelle Torres Category: Buildings 4 Gardens

There are many greenhouse accessories you will need when you decide to build a greenhouse. Some of these greenhouse accessories are crucial to the success of the greenhouse.Greenhouse ventilation is an area that can not be forgotten when it comes to greenhouse accessories. It is probably the most important requirement for a greenhouse. Ventilation has two purposes; it provides fresh air to plants and it also provides cooling. If you do not have proper ventilation your plants will not grow and flourish.

Vents and fans can be used as ways to provide greenhouse ventilation. Exhaust fans blow the hot, stale air out of the greenhouse and bring cooler, fresh air into the structure. Vents can be used to supply fresh air to the plants and they also help to cool the greenhouse.

Heating a greenhouse is also a necessity in most parts of the country. What you need will vary depending on how the greenhouse is used and what the desired temperature is. There are several types of heaters available. At the very least, an emergency heater should be on hand for unexpected dips below freezing.Shade covers can block the hot rays from the sun when needed. Shade covers will keep the greenhouse at a cooler temperature during long, hot summers.
