Birdfeeders and Birdhouses: Find helpful information on your wild birds feeding and nesting preferences.

Bird Houses Bluebirds and swallows seem to prefer a wide open area location for their birdhouse, but the robins like their nestboxes underneath eaves and in the trees. The nuthatches and wrens are attracted to a bird house that is mounted on the just inside a tree line. We carry wood bird houses for wrens, bluebirds, and bats. We also have decorative bird houses to decorate your yard and/or garden.

Bird houses for the bluebird are deeper than for the swallows, nuthatches and wrens. One thing that always amazed me is the lack of cooperation from the birds in using the correct bird house. Birds like to invade each others domains when they are unoccupied. A simple solution to this would be to place predator guards under or above your bird house if you have problems with such predators. A predator guard can consist of a thin sheet of tin about 18 to 24 inches high rapped around a pole, post, or tree. There are many methods used but I have found this to be the easiest solution. A UFO LED Grow Light Helps Your Indoor Garden Thrive For Less

Light weight, cost efficiency for many years of use, and bright clean light is what the UFO LED grow light will bring to your indoor gardening setup. The UFO LED utilizes special light emitting diode technology to bring you the ultimate grow light on the market today.

The first benefit you will get when you make the switch to a UFO LED light is the quality of light this small unit can produce. A UFO LED uses the power of LED to produce more light than would be given by a four-hundred watt high high pressure sodium, or HPS, grow light. It does this while using only eighty watts of energy, making it very cost efficient in terms of the lumens of light produced compared to the watts of energy needed to produce the light.

Drab Backyard? Get Over it with a Garden Bridge

February 15, 2010 By: Kathy Moran Category: Buildings 4 Gardens

Garden bridges can be traced to the earliest civilizations, where they decorated landscapes from the stately grounds of ancient Roman and Greek aristocracy, to the exotic water gardens of Japan and China. They were built as much for decoration as for practicality, and, in many cases, were designed to be in harmony with the surrounding plant life and the water.

There has always been a certain mystique about water, with different cultures using it to symbolize life, rebirth, purification, immortality, tranquility, and more. Its ability to induce feelings of serenity and contentment, while rejuvenating the spirit, has made it central to the gardens that have been used as places of meditation in many civilizations. The bridge has always been equally important in the scheme of the landscape, as the vantage point from which to enjoy the full splendor of the scenery. (more…)

Homegrown hydroponics comes through

Review Homegrown Hydroponics Grow-Pod Air-conditioned Grow Box

I live in Southern California where it hot. Really hot for most of the year! There is not much I can do about it. It’s my choice to live in this beautiful desert on the West Coast. I have been wanting to grow my own organic fresh herbs for quite some time now. However because of my living space I have very little room that can be devoted to a hydroponics grow operation. Since I live in a small one-bedroom studio condo, I really have no room to grow any plants. I’m pretty crammed in there with the furniture that I own and I have no room to grow any plant in my living space as they would be really obvious to anybody that came over and would give me less space to live in.

However the one space that I have that is not being used fully is my outdoor attached storage facility; sort of like a small garage for a scooter or something. The storage space has an electrical outlet, as well as a light as well as privacy which I like. It seems like it would be a perfect place to grow my plants if it wasn’t so hot in there. In the summer the temperature in my outdoor storage room can get over 120°. Way too hot to grow a plant. So after three years I have almost given up looking for a grow box. I thought I would have to build my own if I wanted to do it right. That chance never came; which turned out to be a blessing in disguise! (more…)
