The Mosquito Hat

December 23, 2009 By: Kate Smith Category: Pest Control

Bites from mosquitoes and other flying insects have always been a problem for gardeners, hunters, fishermen, and other outdoor enthusiasts. Annoyance aside, they can also pose a serious health risk. Millions of people (namely in third world countries) have been stricken with malaria, a serious infectious disease carried by mosquitoes. Closer to home, recent strains of West Nile virus have been found in the United States, also carried by mosquitoes.

Over the years, people have been constantly trying to seek relief from such pesky insects. One of the most practical solutions for keeping them at bay is wearing a mosquito hat.

Mosquito hats are wide-brimmed hats that have fine mesh netting sewn around the rim. The netting completely covers the face and drops down past the collarbone to give added protection. Equipped with the netting, a mosquito hat can protect hunters, campers, military personnel, and others in even the most infested areas.

The hats come in several different styles, colors and fabrics. You can get brimmed, ball cap, or a helmet style. They are available in both men’s and women’s sizes, and primarily khaki, green, and camouflage.
