Starting Seeds for Hydroponics Use
This is a quick and simple tutorial for germinating seeds. Most people growing with hydroponics will start from either seeds or clones. But at one point or another you will always start with seeds as they are easier to obtain in most cases for clones. Starting seeds with the intent of moving them into a hydroponics system is a bit different than starting them in soil. this guide will cover starting seedlings and moving them into a hydroponics grow box.
Germinating seeds:
1. Place a moist paper towel on a ceramic dish.
2. Fold the paper towel up and around the seeds.
3. Place another ceramic dish upside down on top of the bottom dish.
4. Place both dishes in a warm place such as on top of a refrigerator to begin germination process.
5. After a few days the seeds should sprout. At this time they can be moved inside of a humidity dome for 1 to 2 weeks. A humidity dome can be purchased inexpensively from a hydroponics or gardening store.
When you start from seeds you do not know if you plant will be mail or female. this can be considered a drawback from starting with seeds. Also not all seeds will germinate. Some seeds sprout faster than others, showing a sign of dominance and good genetics. Seeds are at their most fragile during germination so great care must be taken to ensure their survival. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully for obtaining best results.
