Soil is very essential for a plant’s life. Many people would wonder how a plant would grow without the use of soil. Because of the many advances and new technological discoveries, everything can be made in an instant such as food, beverages, and even plants. There are new methods in these modern days where they can grow the plants fast.

The use of the traditional method of agriculture, which consists of the slow process of cultivating, watering, sowing, and attending to the plant everyday, became less popular to those gardeners who have learned the methods of organic hydroponics. What Is A Black Orchid – Fascinating But Elusive

Do they really exist? Where is the black orchid? These questions and others have on orchid hobbyists minds for centuries.

Orchid growers and hobbyists have been trying to grow this orchid for a very long time. They have tried many different orchid plants and hybrid varieties to get to this orchid.

There seems to have been a fascination for black anything. You have people striving for black gladiolus, black canna- lillies and yes even black corn. (I’m not sure if they ever got the black corn.)

There are many other references to “black orchid” in detective mysteries, in names of clubs and restaurants as well as on the stage. In fact, go on to Amazon and look at the book “Black Orchid” by Dave McKean. (more…)

Toads: Nature’s Pest Control Service

As they are common throughout the U.S., toads can be easily attracted to your garden. Chipped flower pots can be an excellent home for your new pest control service. Here’s what to do:

Encouraging Garden Guests

Toads are primarily nocturnal, and are mostly inactive during the day. Here are some steps for encouraging them to live in shady garden spaces:

* You can chip out a hole along the rim of a terra cotta flower pot. The hole can be created and adjusted using a ceramic tile cutting tool. The entrance hole should be about 2 or 3 inches wide and a couple of inches deep. * Place each inverted flower pot in a shady spot where it won’t be exposed to direct sun. Toads also enjoy damp garden mulch, as they partially bury themselves during the heat of the day. * Use flower pot saucers to provide water near each toad home. Toads drink by absorbing water through their skin, and they prefer a moist environment. (more…)
