Have an Organic Garden in San Diego

Warm winters and sunny summers make it feasible for San Diego residents to garden year round. Organic gardening is especially beneficial to this ocean side community that is nestled between the beautiful shore and the mountains. Soil condition in San Diego can be an issue. Those in the higher elevations may find many rocks, and most people will need to water their gardens frequently to prevent soil from drying out.

Utilizing Rain Water to your Advantage
One of the best things gardeners can do is to save rainwater in rain barrels and use it to their gain. Rainfall in San Diego is often spotty. The majority of rainfall happens in January, February and March, while summers are likely to be to be quite dry, especially the months of June, July and August. It is useful to place rain barrels under your gutter downspouts to collect the water to irrigate your garden during dry spells. (more…)
