Hydroponic Nutrients Are Plant Food

If you are new to hydroponic gardening, you will want to become familiar with hydroponic nutrients. Although there are a dizzying array of different hydroponic nutrients available on the market today, there are a few signals that you can be looking out for in order to help you find the right hydroponic nutrient for your plants.

First, you will need to know that hydroponic nutrient is just another name for plant food, or hydroponic fertilizer. All plants require certain kinds and amounts of macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are needed in larger quantities, while micronutrients are required in lesser amounts. When grown traditionally, plants will pick up their macronutrients and micronutrients through the soil, but this is not an option in hydroponic gardening, which utilizes soilless growing mediums, or aeroponics, which uses no growing medium at all. The time when humankind decided to move from silent knowledge to reason was the same time it moved from hunting and gathering to agriculture. Agriculture was not undertaken because big game had died off, or any such reason, but rather because humanity wanted to experiment with thinking, social organization, etc. The human and grain gods made a deal at that point to help each other out. A similar deal was struck with e.g. the bovine god. Cows, in return for the loss of a certain measure of freedom (reduction to the status of property, having their children taken away from them, etc.), received in return freedom from random predators and the condition of something to be protected and defended by some pretty intense little monkey-like creatures.

Similarly, the way back to silent knowledge is through hunting. However it is possible to apply much silent knowledge to the practice of agriculture – hence these lessons. (more…)

What is: Longwood Gardens

The former du Pont estate, located 30 miles west of Philadelphia, which is one of the outstanding public gardens in the United States. Of its 1,000 acres, 350 are devoted to outdoor gardens and 3 1/2 acres are under glass in its spectacular conservatories. Another 20 greenhouses are open to the public.
